Vet William Goulden awarded ruminant research bursary

MSD Animal Health has awarded William Goulden of Blackdown Farm Vets, Devon, with the Veterinary Surgeon Research Bursary in the ruminant sector. William has been awarded funding for his research into the communication between farm veterinary practices and their clients, and making every contact count as part of his bovine reproduction diploma. He is applying lessons learnt from human medicine to help vets support farmers and improve fertility performance.

“I am very grateful for the funding from MSD Animal Health to support me in my project. With the research being based around the communication between farm veterinary practices and their clients, the aim is to help vets get further involved in driving farm efficiency, animal health and welfare.”

Veterinary Advisor at MSD Animal Health, Stephanie Small, adds: “William’s research proposal was selected for its emphasis on the importance of communication as a key success factor in the farm vet and client relationship. It’s a good fit with our focus on putting prevention first.

“His work clearly has an impact on a farm’s ability to improve performance. We’re excited to see the work progress and the recommendations that will result as it supports our commitment to the science of healthier animals.”

The MSD Animal Health Vet Surgeon Research Bursary offers awards of up to £4,000 each. The 2022 award applications is still open and can be accessed via the MSD Animal Health website.
